Reader’s Question:

Speaking of short-term health insurance, can I get them anywhere in East Seattle Washington WA? Would I really need one if it only for a short term?

Andrea

East Seattle, WA

Don’t ever forget, Andrea, that the premise of insurance – any insurance – is that there are unexpected times in our lives when we would need some form of financial assistance. These times are not only unexpected but also does not follow a pattern. It doesn’t necessarily mean that if it is a short-term health insurance then it is not effective. On the contrary, the very short-time when you are left without insurance may be the critical times for you. Short-term health insurance is usually good for 30 to 180 days, during which a lot of things can happen.

Short-term insurance are also much cheaper in East Seattle Washington WA than ordinary health insurance so I really don’t see the reason to go without one and risk having to pay the medical expenses out of your own pocket.

You can easily get one for yourself by talking to your insurers in East Seattle Washington WA. But you can help speed up the process if you shop online and get free quotes from several health insurers in East Seattle. This usually helps as it cuts the selection process somehow because you already saw what was offered and for how much. You can base your interview from these quotes and modify them as you’d want to.

Reader’s Question:

By the time my only son and his class tossed their high school graduation caps into the air, he has already secured the college which he will attend, his dorm room, and had his freshman year courses all picked out. No worries on those things for he is quite a responsible young man. I am just worried that his health insurance is not as securely in place as the rest of these issues.

William

Spokane, WA

Many times, your existing health insurance plan will cover your son until he is 24 years old. If your health insurance plan does not cover college students, it will be best and most beneficial to look into what college health plans are offered at your son’s university.

College health insurance plans can be subsidized by tuition at some schools in Spokane. Such subsidy though does not include your son’s spouses or dependents, which can save you some money. Be advised that college health insurance plans are not free, and its benefits shall vary from one college to another. Health insurance companies in Spokane Washington WA usually meet with committees from different schools to design a plan, specifically tailored to that school’s students. At times, the health insurance policy plans may limit preventive care, but free services may be offered at the health center in Spokane.

There is usually no charge for office visits, but students might be billed for x-rays, lab work, prescriptions, physical therapy, and procedures such as treatment for a wound. Other services that could be covered shall include well-child care, mental health, newborn and infant care, routine AIDS/STD testing, routine pap and pelvic exams, as well as cholesterol screenings. Benefits will pay 100% for covered services at the college health center. For coverage outside the health insurance plan, a deductible may be required. For such cases, coverage could drop quite a bit at 70%.

Take note that premiums and benefits vary from college to college, due to Washington State laws and other economic factors.

Reader’s Question:

My brother decided to take a motorcycle ride last weekend. When the corner came a little too fast, he slip on sand, crashed, and broke his arm. His health insurance will cover his medical bills, but he is worried about the weeks of lost income that will stretch ahead.

Claire

East Seattle, WA

Even if you don’t own a motorcycle, your chances of becoming disabled are great. In any given year, one out of every eight people in East Seattle Washington WA will suffer a disability of some kind, from auto accident injuries to common back problems. Disability can mean financial disaster if you are single, without anyone else’s income to rely on when you can’t work unless you have disability insurance.

Your employer might have group disability coverage for you. I am sure many employers in East Seattle Washington WA will offer short-term coverage that pays disability benefits for a limited period of time, from a few days or up to a year. Some employers would also offer long-term coverage that might have 2 to 3-month waiting period but pays benefits until you are age 65. If you are lucky, your employer may pay all or part of the premium cost in any case. If you are not so sure exactly what coverage you have you can either check your employee benefits book or contact your human resources department. If you have not enrolled in the disability plan yet, try to find out how soon you can get covered.

You may be eligible for disability benefits through Social Security, workers’ compensation or another government program. But it is wise not to totally rely on these programs for protection since each program has its own set of usually strict limitations and restrictions regarding eligibility and benefits paid. Take not that if the disability coverage you have doesn’t adequately meet your needs, consider buying an individual disability income insurance policy. You can buy coverage tailored to your needs and your budget because policies come in all shapes and sizes. I suggest that you shop around and get quotes from several different insurers which this website can do for you just by filling out a similar form found in this page. Benefits paid by most individual policies offered by insurers in East Seattle WA are received free of income taxes unlike insurance provided by your employer.

Okay Kenny,You are not alone.

Health insurance policies in East Seattle Washington WA are now written in plain language and although lengthy are not that hard to understand. You should read your health insurance policy thoroughly every year. There may be annual adjustments.

We advise all our health care policyholders to be very familiar with emergency room procedures, including co-pays. Reader’s Question:

I am about to turn 65. My mail is inundated with Medicare information and health insurance supplemental plans to Medicare. My health insurer has sent me a letter saying I must register with Medicaid. What can you tell me about health insurance in Bellevue Washington WA?

Jerry

Bellevue, WA

Howdy Jerry,

As you know Medicare is a federally controlled health insurance provider in Bellevue Washington WA. Today, most health insurers require their subscribers to enroll in Medicare at age 65. Once enrolled, you can continue with your current carrier with your existing policy or purchase supplemental insurance in Bellevue Washington.

Medicare has two health insurance components. Part A covers portions of your hospital expenses. This means that your providers bill Medicare for your hospital services including expenses related to your stay. Your health insurer pays for the difference less deductibles. There are other services covered by part A.

Part B covers your medical insurance. Again, your provider will invoice Medicare. Your health insurer covers the remainder of medical expenses, which are fairly broad based.

Your are right that the coordination of the Medicare system can be confusing. Before turning 65, you should contact your health insurance agent in Bellevue Washington and ask for advice. The agent in Washington WA can explain how your current coverage fits with Medicare and he may make some helpful suggestions to smooth the edges.

Washington WA Health Insurance Information

Reader’s Question:

My name is Olivier from Washington. I would like to ask what the relationship between auto insurance and health insurance is. Or I mean, protection wise, is there any?

Olivier

Cottage Lake, WA

Gracie, Olivier! This is actually a wide open question and thank you for asking. I will give you a possible scenario where your question will be addressed.

A person has an accident for which he is clearly not the one liable for it. Now, this person naturally, has been injured and treated with a chiropractor. He has good health insurance and he even provided his chiropractor’s office with the complete information of his health insurance. But the health insurance company noted that this was an automobile’s accident so he better go and talk to his auto insurance company.

It was said that the treatment for injuries in an auto accident will be covered by the auto insurance policy first and the health insurance would start paying for the exceeded amount. Hence, there is no relationship between the two.

They have different coverage and each one has its own responsibility to the insured. It will be wise to clearly see things out before you purchase one. Ask your agents in Washington the same scenarios I have given so that you will be able to know what to do during these times.

Whatever happens, it is still important that you avail such insurances, for your own peace of mind and security!

Renewable Health Insurance WA

Reader’s Question:

Is a guaranteed renewable health insurance policy a better option in Washington? What exactly does that mean?

KC

Everett, WA

Hello there, KC.

When you say a health insurance policy is guaranteed renewable in Washington, it just means that you have the right to renew this policy every year. If it isn’t a guaranteed renewable, you could simply lose coverage at the end of the policy year if you get sick or meet an accident.

Examples of health insurance policies I can give you which are normally not guaranteed renewable are those sold in the individual market like short-term or temporary health insurance policies. These are the types of health insurance policies which are normally not comprehensive and are intentionally written for short period of time. Short-term health insurance policies are designed to provide minimal protection during life’s major transitions such as in between jobs, waiting time for landing a job after graduation, and the like. I’d say, temporary health insurance policies normally last for a period of 6 months or so. You can’t expect to get renewed if you get sick and these types do not lead to a permanent coverage.

If it’s guaranteed renewable, it does not really refer to a guaranteed fixed premium rates every year. Premiums might jump significantly in some years, especially if health service facilities and technologies improve greatly.

Bellevue WA Group Health Insurance

Reader’s Question:

I quit my job and dropped my health insurance policy in Bellevue WA which was under my employer’s group coverage in Washington. What can I do to get health protection? I am now a freelance writer.

Ramsey

Bellevue, WA

Good question, Ramsey.

You are now officially on of the numbers who’ll be shopping for health insurance in what we call the individual market in Bellevue WA. For the ones like you who lose or quit a job, start a business, or retire early without a health insurance, individual health insurance policy will be an option for protection from medical expenses. With individual policies, you can get coverage not only for yourself, but you can also opt for a family coverage for a corresponding additional premium on top of your individual premium rate. However, since you are no longer in a group coverage, which is normally spreads the cost among more people, expect that you will be paying higher premium rates this time. Expect also that dollar-to-dollar health insurance will cost you more in individual market.

If you only have the individual market as your option to be covered for health insurance, then better pick a health insurance policy that can cover you and your family from being financially wiped out in case you get sick or meet and accident. Do not be attracted in buying low premiums right away. You shouldn’t shop on premium rates alone, even if that can be very tempting. There is a combination of premium plus your probable out-of-pocket expenses on health claims below your deductible.
